Deadly Secrets

by revkelley Email

I've often heard that Satan's greatest weapon is discouragement.  I used to hold that as true.  It seems to me now, however, that he has a much more deadly tactic.  It is called secrecy.  Nothing will kill a soul faster than secrecy.  Nothing plunges us futher down the slippery slope of sin than secrecy.

...

We are so afraid to bring our sin to light.  And not only that, we are afraid to bring even temptations to light.  Why?  For fear of shame.  Fear of rejection.  That fear isn't necessarily unfounded.  Too many people are shamed for even being tempted.

I think we all need a good reminder here: TEMPTATION ISN'T A SIN! Everyone is tempted by something evil.  Pornography.  Suicidal thoughts.  Jealousy.  Gossip.  Drug addictions.  Anger.  Adultery.  Malice.  Greed.  Sexual perversions.  Being tempted doesn't make us dirty.  It doesn't make us shameful.  It makes us human.  Satan tempts everyone.

If we don't call a temptation to light, call it by name before it becomes a sin, we become ensnared by secrecy syndrome.  We sin.  Keep it "secret."  Then we are tempted again, sin again, deeper and deeper and keep it a "secret" longer and longer until we are either caught, confess, or die.  It will not just go away.

God will bring us out if we are willing to face head on.

"No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it." 1 Cor 10:13 (NASB)

None of us are alone in our sins.  None of us experience a temptation that is not experienced by someone else.  And God has provided a way out.  Take it!
